The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration will decide whether to require two advanced safety features in new cars: systems that warn drivers when they are leaving a lane, and automatically brake ahead of an impending crash.

Ford F-150 earns highest safety award
The redesigned 2009 Ford F-150 pickup received top safety ratings from the government and a leading outside group, the automaker said Wednesday.
The pickup earned the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s top 5-star crash-test ratings and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s “Top Safety Pick” award.

Ford the top safety pick
Ford has a reason to be happy with it’s recent performance, as it is at the top of the annual list of vehicles designated the “Top Safety Pick” by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The car manufacturer had 16 of their vehicles topping the list, which according to the president of the IIHS, are the “top performers in tough front, side and rear crash tests and they have electronic stability control, a crucial technology that can help drivers avoid many crashes altogether”
