The fate of General Motors’ Opel brand has yet to be decided, but Carl-Peter Forster – GM’s Europe president – feels that Magna is the leading bidder for the German brand. Canadian supplier Magna is currently in a bidding war with Belgian investor RHJ International for the Opel brand.

Ford wants to re-negotiate with CAW
The head of Ford’s Canadian operations says the company wants to reopen its contract with the Canadian Auto Workers in the hope of securing terms similar to those the union has already negotiated with General Motors Corp. and Chrysler LLC.

Magna expect to take over Opel by September
Auto parts supplier Magna International Inc. hopes to complete by September a deal to take a majority stake in car maker Opel, Magna’s co-CEO said today.
