The famous Japanese tuning company has closed it’s doors in Japan and decided to call it quits. With more then $40 million in debt and dismal sales in 2008 it did not come as a suprise to many.
200 employees strong Greddy has been around since 1976, with a presence in North America since 1994.
Greddy is another casualty of cheap knock offs, lax copyright laws and a myrad of other issues that have been going on in the performance aftermarket.
Greddy has built a strong reputation in North America with bolt on turbo kits and engine management systems, amongst other parts, whereas in Japan it uses the brand Trust to market it’s products.
The company will surely be bought up by either a venture capital firm looking to turn it around, or by another competitor who is trying to get a more solid footing in the declining tuner segment.
Greddy and the brand will surely be missed, and I’m not sure who to turn to for warranty issues on my E-Manage Ultimate I have just picked up recently, should the need arise.
I mean what happens to a brand when it leaves the marketplace? Other brands that could be named that have totally disappeared include Ichibahn, Quest Redline, with a few others coming and going, changing owners, etc etc such as APC (American Products Company), Evotion, DC Sport, 3A (American Auto Accessories), Eurolite, StreetGlow to name a few. Should be interesting to see who picks up Greddy.
